Hello, all! I'm Kylene Farnan and I will be teaching 5th grade ELA this year. I grew up in town and I am a product of the Egg Harbor City schools. I am so excited to now give back to the community that gave so much to me.

I graduated from Rowan University in 2011 with degrees in Elementary Education and History. Since then I have taught in Atlantic City (Oceanside Charter School and Pennsylvania Avenue School) and right here in Egg Harbor City at Spragg. I have taught every grade level from 1st to 8th and have experience as a classroom teacher (all subjects) and as a specialist (Social Studies and Technology). I can't wait to bring everything that I have learned, thus far, to my new students at the Community School!

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me via phone, email, or dojo anytime. I welcome any and all questions and look forward to working with you, the parents, to help your children develop into lifelong learners! It's going to be an AWESOME year!

Daily Homework:
1. RAH - read for at least 20 minutes and complete response page. Will be checked daily and collected on Friday!
2. Study Spelling flashcards. Extra assignments (3x each, sentences, story etc) can be completed as necessary, extra credit will be awarded.
3. Daily Precept discussion - students must have a ~meaningful~ discussion about the precept of the day. A precept is a quote that is designed to guide us and promote kindness, generosity, positivity and courage every day. Students should consider what the quote means and how it could apply to different situations and events in their lives.

Monthly Precept Activity - Students pick their favorite precept of the month and write a 3 paragraph essay about why it's their favorite and how they can use it to guide their choices each day.
